Jamoona Fresh - 450g to 500g Fresh Gur (Jaggery Cubes)

Jaggery consists of pure sugar cane juice and is mainly used in India and in Ayurvedic medicine as a sugar alternative. In terms of taste, Jaggery is slightly reminiscent of caramel. In India it is mainly used to sweeten baked goods, desserts such as rice pudding and hot and cold drinks.

Storage & Use:
Jaggery should be stored in a cool and dry place and can then be kept for several months. It is used as an ingredient in both sweet and savory dishes in India and Sri Lanka. For example, jaggery is used in the southern Indian dishes Sambar and Rasam and is sometimes added to the northern Dal. Jaggery can also be consumed as a sweet, for example pure, as toffee or processed into cakes. In parts of India it is seen as auspicious and consumed on special occasions.

Benefits:
The mixture that is created during the production of jaggery contains, in addition to the usual sugar (i.e. sucrose), organic acids, vitamins, minerals and betaine, which should lower the homocysteine levels in the blood and thus protect against arteriosclerosis, for example. The fact that jaggery contains nutrients (including iron, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium) is because the sugar is not refined, i.e. not chemically processed.
